Problem

A wooden block has dimensions 50 cm×20 cm×10 cm50\,\text{cm} \times 20\,\text{cm} \times 10\,\text{cm} and weighs 300 N300\,\text{N}. It is placed on a horizontal table in two different ways. (i) Calculate the pressure exerted on the table when the block rests on its 50 cm×20 cm50\,\text{cm} \times 20\,\text{cm} face. (ii) The block is now turned so that it rests on its 50 cm×10 cm50\,\text{cm} \times 10\,\text{cm} face. Calculate the new pressure on the table. (iii) By what percentage does the pressure change when the block is turned from the first position to the second?
