Problem

From the roof of a 30 m30\,\text{m}-tall building, a ball is launched straight upward with an initial speed of 15 m/s15\,\text{m/s}. Air resistance is negligible, and the acceleration due to gravity is g=9.8 m/s2g=9.8\,\text{m/s}^2 downward. (a) Determine the time interval between launch and the instant the ball reaches its highest point. (b) Calculate the maximum vertical distance between the ball and the ground. (c) Find the total time from launch until the ball first reaches ground level at the foot of the building. (d) Compute the ball’s speed immediately before it strikes the ground.
