Problem

A curve CC is given parametrically by x=1−t2,y=2t,−1≤t≤2.x=1-t^{2}, \quad y=2t, \quad -1\le t\le 2. Let TT be the region bounded by the curve CC and the yy-axis. (a) Eliminate the parameter tt to express xx explicitly as a function of yy. (b) Determine the yy-values corresponding to the endpoints of the parameter interval −1≤t≤2-1\le t\le 2. (c) Write a single definite integral with respect to yy that represents the area of TT. Do not evaluate at this stage. (d) Evaluate the integral from part (c) to obtain the exact area of TT.
