Problem

In a series LCRLCR circuit the current leads the applied voltage when driven at angular frequency ωx\omega_x, while the current attains its maximum value at the resonant frequency ω0\omega_0. The magnitude of current at ωx\omega_x is found to be exactly 12\dfrac{1}{\sqrt{2}} times the maximum value at resonance. (i) State whether ωx\omega_x is less than ω0\omega_0 or greater than ω0\omega_0. (ii) Explain your answer using the phase relationship between current and voltage on either side of resonance. (iii) Identify, with reasoning, whether ωx\omega_x corresponds to the lower or the upper half-power frequency.
