Problem

Two point charges are fixed in vacuum: Q1=+4.0 μCQ_1=+4.0\,\mu\text{C} at the origin (0,0)(0,0) and Q2=−3.0 μCQ_2=-3.0\,\mu\text{C} on the yy-axis at (0,0.30 m)(0,0.30\,\text{m}). Consider the point PP with coordinates (0.40 m,0)(0.40\,\text{m},0). (i) Calculate the electric field vector E1\mathbf E_1 at PP due to Q1Q_1. (ii) Calculate the electric field vector E2\mathbf E_2 at PP due to Q2Q_2. (iii) Determine the net electric field Enet\mathbf E_{\text{net}} at PP, giving its magnitude and direction with respect to the positive xx-axis. (iv) A test charge q=+2.0×10−6 Cq=+2.0\times10^{-6}\,\text{C} is now placed at PP. Find the magnitude and direction of the force acting on it.
