Problem

A single square loop of side 0.20 m0.20\,\text{m} lies in the plane of the page. A spatially uniform magnetic field perpendicular to the page varies in the following piece-wise manner: • 0≤t<2.0 s0\le t<2.0\,\text{s}: BB increases linearly from 00 to 0.50 T0.50\,\text{T}, directed into the page. • 2.0≤t<4.0 s2.0\le t<4.0\,\text{s}: BB remains constant at 0.50 T0.50\,\text{T} into the page. • 4.0≤t≤6.0 s4.0\le t\le6.0\,\text{s}: BB decreases linearly to −0.50 T-0.50\,\text{T}, where the negative sign indicates a direction out of the page. Assume the field is uniform over the entire loop area. (a) Calculate the magnitude of the induced emf at t=1.0 st=1.0\,\text{s}, t=3.0 st=3.0\,\text{s}, and t=5.0 st=5.0\,\text{s}. Show all reasoning. (b) On axes you provide, sketch a qualitative graph of emf versus time for the entire 00–6 s6\,\text{s} interval. Clearly label the times and magnitudes corresponding to the values found in part (a). (c) During the interval 4.04.0–6.0 s6.0\,\text{s}, state whether the induced current flows clockwise or counter-clockwise as viewed from the reader and justify your answer.
