Problem

A hydrogen atom in its ground state absorbs a photon whose wavelength is 95 nm95\,\text{nm}. After absorption, the electron is found in an excited stationary orbit. (i) Calculate the energy of the absorbed photon in electron-volt. (ii) Determine the principal quantum number of the final orbit reached by the electron. (iii) Find the frequency of the absorbed photon. Use h=6.63×10−34 J sh=6.63\times10^{-34}\,\text{J s}, c=3.00×108 m s−1c=3.00\times10^{8}\,\text{m s}^{-1} and 1 eV=1.6×10−19 J1\,\text{eV}=1.6\times10^{-19}\,\text{J}.
