Problem

A long, straight conductor carries a steady current. Predict how the magnetic field at a fixed point will change under each of the following conditions, giving a brief reason in each case: (a) The current is doubled while the distance of the point from the conductor remains unchanged. (b) The distance of the point from the conductor is halved while the current remains unchanged. (c) The current is reduced to one-third of its original value and simultaneously the distance of the point is doubled.
