Problem

A horizontal U-shaped conductor consists of two straight parallel arms each 20 cm20\,\text{cm} long joined by a 10 cm10\,\text{cm} long cross-piece. The entire arrangement lies in a uniform vertical magnetic field of 0.50 T0.50\,\text{T} directed upward. A current of 15 A15\,\text{A} flows anticlockwise when viewed from above (i.e., southward in the west arm, eastward along the cross-piece, and northward in the east arm). Neglecting the forces on the curved corners, calculate the magnitude and direction of the net magnetic force on the conductor.
