Problem

A 1 kg1\,\text{kg} mass is placed at the origin of a Cartesian coordinate system. Two other point masses are fixed at positions (0.40 m,0)(0.40\,\text{m},0) with mass 4 kg4\,\text{kg} and (0,0.30 m)(0,0.30\,\text{m}) with mass 3 kg3\,\text{kg}. (Take G=6.67×10−11 N m2/kg2G = 6.67\times10^{-11}\,\text{N\,m}^2\text{/kg}^2.) (a) Calculate the magnitude of the gravitational force on the 1 kg1\,\text{kg} mass due to the 4 kg4\,\text{kg} mass. (b) Calculate the magnitude of the gravitational force on the 1 kg1\,\text{kg} mass due to the 3 kg3\,\text{kg} mass. (c) Hence determine the magnitude of the resultant gravitational force on the 1 kg1\,\text{kg} mass and the angle it makes with the positive xx-axis.
