Problem

Three uniform bodies each have the same mass MM and radius RR: (i) a thin circular ring (hoop), (ii) a solid disc (cylinder), and (iii) a solid sphere. All are to rotate about their own symmetry axis through the centre and perpendicular to their plane (for the sphere, any diameter). (i) Write the expression for the moment of inertia of each body about the stated axis. (ii) Express the radius of gyration kk for each body in terms of RR. (iii) Arrange the three bodies in ascending order of their radii of gyration and explain, in not more than three sentences, the physical reason for this order.
