Problem

From the origin OO, two displacement vectors are drawn: A\mathbf{A} has magnitude 12 m12\,\text{m} and makes an angle of 135∘135^{\circ} with the positive xx-axis; B\mathbf{B} has magnitude 15 m15\,\text{m} and makes an angle of −45∘-45^{\circ} with the positive xx-axis (i.e., 45∘45^{\circ} below it). (i) Express A\mathbf{A} and B\mathbf{B} individually in unit-vector notation. (ii) Obtain the resultant displacement R=A+B\mathbf{R}=\mathbf{A}+\mathbf{B} in unit-vector form. (iii) Calculate the magnitude of R\mathbf{R} and the angle it makes with the positive xx-axis, quoting the angle to the nearest degree.
