Problem

A stone is dropped from rest from a balcony and allowed to fall freely. For the first observer, downward is taken as positive. After 2 s, a second observer chooses upward as the positive direction. Taking g = 9.8 m s⁻², find the numerical value and sign of (i) the displacement of the stone from the balcony, and (ii) its velocity, as recorded by the second observer at t = 2 s.
