Problem

A vertical cylindrical tank of radius 0.60 m is completely filled with water. A small orifice of area 1.5 cm² is drilled at the centre of its base. Determine the time required for the level of water to fall from 1.20 m to 0.30 m above the orifice. Take g = 9.8 m s⁻² and neglect viscosity. (i) Formulate the differential equation connecting the instantaneous height h of water above the orifice and the time t as the water drains. (ii) Integrate the differential equation obtained in part (i) to calculate the required time.
