Problem

A small metal ball is released from rest at a height near the surface of Earth. A second identical ball is released from rest at the same height on the Moon, where the acceleration due to gravity is one–sixth that on Earth. Neglect air resistance in both cases. (i) Describe the qualitative shape of the distance–time (ss–tt) graph for each ball during the first 5 s5\,\text{s} of its fall. (ii) Which ball will have the steeper slope on its velocity–time (vv–tt) graph? Give a reason for your answer without using numerical calculations. (iii) For the same time interval, how will the areas under the two vv–tt graphs compare? Explain what physical quantity these areas represent and why they differ for the two balls.
