Problem

Two cyclists, A and B, start together from rest on parallel straight tracks. Cyclist A reaches a velocity of 15 m/s15\,\text{m/s} in 5 s5\,\text{s} with uniform acceleration and then keeps this velocity constant. Cyclist B moves with a uniform acceleration of 2.5 m/s22.5\,\text{m/s}^2 throughout the first 8 s8\,\text{s}. Answer the following: (a) Draw separate labelled velocity–time graphs for cyclists A and B for the first 8 s8\,\text{s} on the same axes. (b) Calculate the acceleration of cyclist A. (c) Determine the time (if any within 8 s8\,\text{s}) at which both cyclists have the same velocity and state that velocity. (d) At t=4 st = 4\,\text{s}, which cyclist has the greater slope on the velocity–time graph? Give a reason based on your calculations.
