Problem

Two identical cars negotiate two level circular tracks of radii 50 m50\,\text{m} and 80 m80\,\text{m} respectively. (i) The car on the 50 m50\,\text{m} track moves with a constant speed of 12 m s−112\,\text{m}\,\text{s}^{-1}. Calculate the magnitude of its centripetal acceleration. (ii) Determine the speed at which the car on the 80 m80\,\text{m} track must travel so that its centripetal acceleration equals that of the first car. (iii) Suppose instead that both cars adjust their speeds so that the time taken to complete one full revolution is the same for both tracks. Find the ratio of their centripetal accelerations under this condition.
