Problem

An astronaut performs the same vertical throw experiment on Earth and on the Moon. In each case the ball is projected upward with the same initial speed of 10 m s−110\,\text{m\,s}^{-1}. Take gEarth=9.8 m s−2g_{\text{Earth}} = 9.8\,\text{m\,s}^{-2} and gMoon=1.63 m s−2g_{\text{Moon}} = 1.63\,\text{m\,s}^{-2}. (i) Determine the total time of flight of the ball on Earth. (ii) Determine the total time of flight of the ball on the Moon. (iii) Find the ratio tMoontEarth\dfrac{t_{\text{Moon}}}{t_{\text{Earth}}} and interpret the result.
