Problem

Two blocks, C (1.5 kg1.5\,\text{kg}) and D (4.0 kg4.0\,\text{kg}), are in contact on a horizontal table. The coefficient of kinetic friction between each block and the table is μk=0.20\mu_k = 0.20. A horizontal force of 30 N30\,\text{N} is applied to block C only, causing the blocks to slide together across the table. (a) For each block, state the magnitude and direction of the kinetic-friction force exerted by the table while the blocks are sliding. (b) Determine the magnitude of the common acceleration of the blocks. (c) Calculate the magnitude of the normal contact force between the two blocks during the motion. (d) After the blocks have moved 0.80 m0.80\,\text{m}, find the total work done on the system by the applied 30 N30\,\text{N} force.
