(Determining mobility from conductivity)
A solid aluminium specimen at 298 K has electrical conductivity 5.8×107Sm−1. Its free-electron concentration is 8.5×1028m−3. Take the elementary charge as 1.6×10−19C.
(a) Calculate the mobility of free electrons in the specimen.
(b) Determine the resistivity of aluminium at this temperature.
(c) What magnitude of uniform electric field must be applied inside the metal to obtain a current density of 1.2×107Am−2?
