Problem

Two parabolas are given by P1:y2=4axP_{1}:y^{2}=4ax and P2:x2=4ayP_{2}:x^{2}=4ay, where a>0a>0. (i) For each parabola, state its axis and the direction in which it opens. (ii) Determine the coordinates of the focus of each parabola and identify the quadrant or axis in which each focus lies. (iii) Find all points of intersection of P1P_{1} and P2P_{2} other than the origin. (iv) Draw both parabolas on the same pair of axes, labelling the vertices, foci, and the points of intersection found in part (iii).
