Problem

A single circular coil of radius 10 cm lies in a horizontal plane and carries a steady current of 5 A anticlockwise when viewed from above. A straight wire segment of length 4 cm is placed along the diameter of the coil at its centre so that the wire segment is vertical and carries a current of 2 A downward. Answer the questions given below: (i) Calculate the magnitude of the magnetic field at the centre of the coil due to the current in the coil. (ii) Using the value obtained in part (i), compute the magnitude and direction of the force acting on the vertical wire segment.
