Problem

A hydrofoil plate of area 0.50 m20.50\,\text{m}^2 is completely immersed in water. Water flows over the upper face at 3.0 m s−13.0\,\text{m}\,\text{s}^{-1} and along the lower face at 2.0 m s−12.0\,\text{m}\,\text{s}^{-1}. Given the density of water is 1000 kg m−31000\,\text{kg}\,\text{m}^{-3}, calculate the upward thrust acting on the plate.
