Problem

A vertical storage tank is completely filled with lubricating oil whose density is 800 kg m−3800\,\text{kg m}^{-3}. A circular inspection valve of diameter 10 cm10\,\text{cm} is fitted on the side wall 8 m8\,\text{m} below the free surface of the oil. Atmospheric pressure is 1.013×105 Pa1.013\times10^{5}\,\text{Pa}. Answer the questions given below. (i) Calculate the absolute pressure acting on the outer side of the valve. (ii) Determine the total force exerted by the oil on the valve. State the direction of this force. (iii) Express the force obtained in part (ii) in kilogram-force (kgf\text{kgf}).
