Problem

The velocity of a motor-bike travelling in a straight line was recorded every second. The data obtained are given below. Use the data to answer the questions that follow.
Time tt (s)01234
Velocity vv (m\,s−1^{-1})0491522
(i) Calculate the average acceleration of the bike between t=0 st = 0\,\text{s} and t=4 st = 4\,\text{s}. (ii) Determine the average acceleration between t=1 st = 1\,\text{s} and t=3 st = 3\,\text{s}. (iii) Using the smallest suitable time intervals centred about t=2 st = 2\,\text{s}, obtain an estimate for the instantaneous acceleration at t=2 st = 2\,\text{s}.
