Problem

Glycerol (C3H5(OH)3) is infinitely soluble in water, whereas 1-butanol (C4H9OH) dissolves only about 7.9 g per 100 g of water at 25 °C. Despite its larger molar mass, why is glycerol far more soluble in water than 1-butanol? Respond in no more than two sentences.
