Problem

From the top of a tower of unknown height HH metres, the angle of depression of a point PP on the horizontal ground is 52∘52^\circ. A point QQ lies on the same horizontal line as PP and is 78 m78\,\text{m} closer to the foot of the tower than PP. The angle of depression of QQ is 70∘70^\circ. (i) Using a suitable sketch, label all the known and unknown quantities involved. (ii) Write two equations in HH and the horizontal distance xx (in metres) from the foot of the tower to point QQ. (iii) Solve these equations to find HH and xx. Give each answer correct to the nearest metre.
