Problem

An experiment can result in exactly four outcomes E1,E2,E3,E_1, E_2, E_3, and E4E_4. Their probabilities are assigned as follows: P(E1)=2k, P(E2)=k+0.10, P(E3)=0.25, P(E4)=0.15,P(E_1)=2k,\thinspace P(E_2)=k+0.10,\thinspace P(E_3)=0.25,\thinspace P(E_4)=0.15, where kk is a positive real number. (i) Find the value of kk. (ii) Using this value, verify that each of the four probabilities lies between 0 and 1.
