Problem

Two identical tower cranes are tested for performance. Crane A lifts a 2000 kg2000\,\text{kg} concrete block vertically through 10 m10\,\text{m} in 25 s25\,\text{s}. Crane B lifts a 2500 kg2500\,\text{kg} block through 12 m12\,\text{m} in 35 s35\,\text{s}. Take g=9.8 m s−2g = 9.8\,\text{m\,s}^{-2}. (i) Calculate the work done by each crane in its respective lift. (ii) Determine the average power developed by each crane during the lift. (iii) Which crane is more powerful and by how much (in kW)?
