Problem

Let PP and QQ be square matrices of the same order. (i) Define the identity matrix InI_n. (ii) If PQ=InPQ = I_n, does it necessarily follow that QP=InQP = I_n? Give a brief reason for your answer. (iii) Take P=(2−110),Q=(01−12).P = \begin{pmatrix}2 & -1\\ 1 & 0\end{pmatrix}, \qquad Q = \begin{pmatrix}0 & 1\\ -1 & 2\end{pmatrix}. Compute PQPQ and QPQP and interpret your results in the light of part (ii).
