Problem

A cyclist is moving at 5 m/s5\,\text{m/s}. He accelerates uniformly for 4 s4\,\text{s} and reaches a speed of 13 m/s13\,\text{m/s}. He then continues to accelerate at the same rate. (i) Calculate the value of his acceleration. (ii) How much further must he travel for his speed to reach 17 m/s17\,\text{m/s} after the 4 s4\,\text{s} interval?
