Problem
Two identical capacitors, each of capacitance 4μF, are first connected in parallel to a 300V battery and charged fully. They are then disconnected from the battery and reconnected in series with plates of like sign connected together.
(i) Find the equivalent capacitance of the series combination.
(ii) Calculate the total energy stored in the two capacitors before reconnection.
(iii) Calculate the total energy stored after they are connected in series.
(iv) What percentage change in stored energy has occurred due to the reconnection?
