Problem
A small block A of mass 1\,kg is placed on a larger block B of mass 4\,kg that rests on a rough horizontal surface. The coefficient of friction between A and B is 0.60 and that between B and the floor is 0.30. A horizontal pull of 25\,N is applied to the upper block A. Take g=10ms−2.
(i) Examine whether block A will slip over block B. Show all steps leading to your conclusion.
(ii) Calculate the acceleration of each block for the situation obtained in part (i).
(iii) Find the magnitude and sense (direction) of the frictional force acting (a) between the two blocks and (b) between block B and the floor.
