Problem

A hydraulic press has a small piston of area 0.02 m2^2 and a large piston of area 0.50 m2^2. (i) Calculate the maximum load that can be lifted when a force of 400 N is applied on the small piston, neglecting friction. (ii) If the area of the small piston is reduced to 0.01 m2^2 while the applied force remains 400 N, what load can now be lifted under the same conditions?
