Problem

A diver descends vertically in seawater of density 1025 kg m−31025\,\text{kg}\,\text{m}^{-3}. Atmospheric pressure at the ocean surface is 1.01×105 Pa1.01\times10^{5}\,\text{Pa}. (a) Determine the diver’s gauge pressure when she is 18 m18\,\text{m} below the surface. (b) Calculate the absolute pressure experienced by the diver at that depth. (c) Express the gauge pressure from part (a) in atmospheres, using 1 atm=1.01×105 Pa1\,\text{atm}=1.01\times10^{5}\,\text{Pa}.
