Problem

A monatomic ideal gas, initially at temperature T1T_1 , is enclosed in a cylinder fitted with a frictionless piston. The gas is allowed to expand adiabatically to a temperature T2T_2 by releasing the piston suddenly. If L1L_1 and L2L_2 are the length of the gas column before and after expansion respectively, then T1T2\frac{T_1}{T_2} is given by [2000S] (1) (L1L2)2/3\left(\frac{L_1}{L_2}\right)^{2/3} (2) L1L2\frac{L_1}{L_2} (3) L2L1\frac{L_2}{L_1} (4) (L2L1)2/3\left(\frac{L_2}{L_1}\right)^{2/3}
