With reference to a practical single-phase transformer used in distribution networks, answer the following questions.
(i) Name and briefly describe two categories of losses that occur in its iron core.
(ii) Laminated soft-iron sheets are employed instead of a solid core. Explain how this constructional change influences one of the losses named in part (i).
(iii) State why the power dissipated in the windings depends on the load current whereas the power dissipated in the core is almost independent of the load.
