Problem

Two forces act simultaneously on a block lying on a smooth horizontal table. (i) The first force has magnitude 25 N25\,\text{N} and is applied at 40∘40^{\circ} above the positive x-axis. Express this force in unit-vector component form. (ii) The second force is given directly in components as F2=−12 i^+18 j^ N\mathbf{F}_2 = -12\,\mathbf{\hat{i}} + 18\,\mathbf{\hat{j}}\,\text{N}. Determine the x and y components of the resultant force acting on the block. (iii) Calculate the magnitude and direction (angle with the positive x-axis, measured anticlockwise) of the resultant force obtained in part (ii).
