Problem

Two circles have equal radii of 7 cm7\,\text{cm} with centres O1O_1 and O2O_2 respectively. In the first circle, chord ABAB measures 8 cm8\,\text{cm} and in the second circle, chord CDCD also measures 8 cm8\,\text{cm}. The line O1O2O_1O_2 equals 20 cm20\,\text{cm}. Answer the following questions. (i) Prove that ∠AO1B=∠CO2D\angle AO_1B = \angle CO_2D. (ii) Will the equality of ABAB and CDCD guarantee equal central angles if the radii of the two circles are not equal? Give a clear reason for your answer. (iii) Suppose the radius of the second circle is changed to 9 cm9\,\text{cm} while chord CDCD remains 8 cm8\,\text{cm}. State whether ∠CO2D\angle CO_2D is greater than, equal to, or less than ∠AO1B\angle AO_1B and justify your answer without using trigonometry.
