Problem

A car is moving straight along a horizontal road when a constant braking force acts on it. (a) The braking force acting opposite to the direction of motion is 500 N500\,\text{N}. The car travels 20 m20\,\text{m} before coming to rest. Calculate the work done by the braking force, clearly mentioning its sign. (b) Suppose instead that a towing vehicle pulls the same car forward with a horizontal force of 500 N500\,\text{N} through the same displacement of 20 m20\,\text{m}. Calculate the work done in this case and comment on how the sign differs from part (a).
