Problem

A circular coil is fixed in space and connected to a sensitive galvanometer. A bar magnet with its north pole facing the coil is moved along the common axis of the two. Answer the following: (i) When the magnet is moved towards the coil, state whether the induced current in the coil (as seen from the magnet side) is clockwise or anticlockwise. Give reason. (ii) State the sense of the induced current when the magnet is drawn away from the coil. Justify your answer. (iii) If the magnet is held stationary inside the coil, what reading will the galvanometer show? Explain. (iv) Keeping the initial position the same, the south pole of the magnet is now moved towards the coil instead of the north pole. State the sense of the induced current and give reason.
