Problem

A stone is projected vertically upward from ground level. (i) Show that the time ttopt_{\text{top}} taken by the stone to reach the highest point is given by ttop=ugt_{\text{top}} = \dfrac{u}{g}, where uu is the speed of projection and gg is the acceleration due to gravity (take g=9.8 m s−2g = 9.8\,\text{m s}^{-2}). (ii) The stone returns to the ground 4 s4\,\text{s} after being projected. Using the result of part (i), calculate the speed of projection. (iii) With this speed, determine the maximum height the stone reaches above the ground.
