Problem

A mechanic uses a hydraulic jack to lift a car of mass 1200 kg. The larger piston that supports the car has an area of 0.05 m², while the smaller piston that the mechanic pushes has an area of 0.0015 m². The smaller piston is pushed downward through 12 cm. Assume the fluid is incompressible and losses are negligible. (i) Calculate the force exerted by the mechanic on the smaller piston. (ii) Find the distance through which the car is raised.
