Problem

A 24 V24\,\text{V} battery is connected across two resistors of 4 Ω4\,\Omega and 6 Ω6\,\Omega joined in parallel. A third resistor of 12 Ω12\,\Omega is initially isolated by an open switch. (i) Calculate the current through each of the two branches before the switch is closed. (ii) After the switch is closed, the 12 Ω12\,\Omega resistor becomes part of the parallel network. Determine the current through each of the three branches.
