Problem

Consider the line x+y−4=0x + y - 4 = 0. (i) Find the xx–intercept and the yy–intercept of the line. (ii) Using the intercepts obtained in part (i), draw a neat sketch of the line on graph paper. (iii) Without using the graph, decide whether each of the following points is on, above or below the line by substituting their coordinates into the equation: A(1,2),  B(3,0),  C(0,5)A(1,2),\; B(3,0),\; C(0,5) (iv) Compare your algebraic answers in part (iii) with the relative positions you observe from your sketch. Comment on any similarities or differences.
