Problem

A Pitot–static probe is placed in an open-circuit wind tunnel to measure the speed of air (density 1.2 kg m−31.2\,\text{kg\,m}^{-3}). The stagnation and static pressure tappings are connected to a water manometer (density 1000 kg m−31000\,\text{kg\,m}^{-3}). When the tunnel is running steadily, the difference between the water levels in the limbs is 25 mm25\,\text{mm}. (i) Calculate the speed of the air stream in the tunnel. (ii) Compute the dynamic pressure of the air corresponding to this speed, in N m−2\text{N m}^{-2}.
