Problem

Two coaxial, coplanar circular loops PP and QQ have radii 20 cm20\,\text{cm} and 5 cm5\,\text{cm}, respectively. The larger loop PP carries a steady current of 5 A5\,\text{A} in the clockwise direction as seen by an observer looking along the common axis toward the loops. (i) If the current in PP is switched off to zero in 0.10 s0.10\,\text{s}, determine the direction of the induced current in QQ. Support your answer with reasoning based on changing magnetic flux. (ii) While the current is falling, what is the nature (attractive or repulsive) of the net force experienced by QQ? Explain. (iii) Suppose instead that the current in PP is increased uniformly from 5 A5\,\text{A} to 10 A10\,\text{A} in 0.10 s0.10\,\text{s}. Repeat parts (i) and (ii) for this case.
