Problem

Two resistors of 120 Ω120\,\Omega and 180 Ω180\,\Omega are connected in series with a student-made resistor whose value is unknown. When a potential difference of 24 V24\,\text{V} is applied across the entire combination, a current of 60 mA60\,\text{mA} is observed. (i) Determine the equivalent resistance of the series combination. (ii) Using the result of part (i), find the resistance of the student-made resistor. (iii) Calculate the potential drop across each resistor in the circuit. (iv) Verify that the algebraic sum of the individual potential drops equals the applied potential difference.
