Problem

In a classroom demonstration, a 5-cm strip of magnesium ribbon is ignited in a Bunsen-burner flame and allowed to burn completely in air. (1) Identify two distinct macroscopic observations that a student would record while the magnesium ribbon reacts. (2) For each observation in part (a), state specifically how it provides evidence that a chemical change—not merely a physical change—has occurred.
