Problem

A community fun-run recorded the ages of all participants and displayed the distribution in a histogram whose classes were of width 3 years. The first class (12–14 years) contained 4 participants and the last class recorded was 39–41 years, which contained 2 participants. No participants were younger than 12 years or older than 41 years. (i) From the histogram state the youngest and the oldest age recorded. (ii) Find the range of the ages. (iii) At the next edition of the run, all the same participants return, each two years older. Without drawing a new histogram, determine the range of their ages now and justify your answer. (iv) Comment on whether adding the same constant number to every data value affects the range.
